Alot of edits went into this project, it's not obvious of course to anyone looking at it at first, but if you happen to have the actual raw 3D model; then you'll definitely see significant changes made.
The picture above shows just one of the edits I made. Originally the hull and deck are 2 separate components as seen in diagram A. My original idea was to add additional faces below the deck and the top of the hull, come assembly time it's a simple matter of gluing the top and bottom together. Here's the problem with that idea, the hull is meant to be round, so there's no flat surface on the side of it. Therefore the sides on the deck will not glue flat on the hull, and instead would possibly leave a noticeable gap on the sides. 2nd idea of course means to have a single component instead. Building the deck first and then adding the pieces to make up the hull as you build. Sounds easy, but also fiddly to do, especially since I aim to keep this model the same height as Tonberry. If anyone has built Tonberry then you know how fiddly it is handling a round object.
3rd and final idea is what you see in diagram B. Divided the model into 3 separate components, each one having a piece of the deck and hull. I added faces on each component so gluing them together would be easy (remember how I built Tifa, that's how this model would be assembled in the end). This method is spread out all around the model in areas that I deemed necessary to have them (no reason for me to make things too easy). So think of this model like building... er... a rounded.... uhm... box... so it should be easy.
I'm almost done with unfolding and will start building the model tomorrow.Also, just a heads up: I'm already halfway done with my 1st Secret Project for the year. It's a "pack"... a rather "huge" and "extensive" pack. You'll see what they are come release time.

Now you've got me excited for both the battleship and the pack. I can't wait.
p.s. currently building tonberry and enjoying the challenge.
Oh dear the teaser of your Secret "pack" is too much...I look forward to the rest of 2010 to see what your brilliant, artistic mind comes up with :) .
By the way the way you did the hull and the deck is great...That seems to make the papercraft much easy...At least what I can tell from the 3D model heh.
@Dennis: good luck with Tonberry
@Zachary: it'll be quite sometime before the "secret project pack" will be released/revealed, maybe mid summer at best.
NOOOOO! Too long heh. Just kidding, I can only imagine how long these take you to create (both the plans and the crafts themselves). But thats OK, I am looking forward to the battleship as well as Yuffie heh so plenty of things to do while waiting (working on Cloud right now anyways).
It does take quite sometime before I actually finish up an entire project. Mostly because of school work and house chores, but also because I do everything on my own with whatever free time I have that I can spare.
Good luck with Cloud
